Gadget Lust Reloaded: MoGo Talk Bluetooth Headset
Remember the MoGo Talk Bluetooth Headset from a couple months ago? We went a little ga-ga over the way it rides shotgun -- make that piggyback -- on your BlackBerry or iPhone. (Well, I did, anyway -- Dave only goes ga-ga for Lady Gaga. Weird, I know.) Gizmodo was lucky enough to get some hands-on -- make that ears-on -- time with the iPhone version of the MoGo Talk, and found it to be a "surprisingly good" performer. But they took issue with its inability to charge while docked. It's a pretty brief review, but it'll have to tide you over until we can post one of our own (which we hope will be soon -- where's our unit, Newton...

Outrage over Baucus’ Individual Health Insurance Mandate
I've never bought many of the arguments against healthcare reform which rely on an irrational fear of the Big Bad Government, since the feds already "run" healthcare in many ways. Nonetheless, over the last few months we've all heard about "death panels" and "rationed care" (it is already rationed in America -- by wealth) and a "Washington takeover" and an exploding deficit. The message is clear from conservatives: Don't jam Uncle Sam into the "Doctor-Patient relationship." So why no real outrage, until now, from the Right over an individual health insurance mandate? It's a key part of Senator Max Baucus' new plan but it's an old idea with some support from the GOP's establishment (Exhibit A: Massachusetts' "RomneyCare";. Exhibit B:...

Activists Take On ‘Smart Choices’ Nutrition Label
Change.org is organizing a letter writing campaign against the Smart Choices front-of-package nutrition label program, which recently caught flak for its designation of Froot Loops as a healthy option. Even the Food and Drug Administration has expressed skepticism about the program. Kellogg's, PepsiCo and ConAgra were all involved with Smart Choices, but Change.org isn't bothering to deal with them directly. Instead, it's focusing its attention on the medical experts who collaborated in developing the label criteria. The reality is that the food industry is using the Smart Choices program to deceive parents and other shoppers into buying the very food that has led to a costly epidemic of diabetes and obesity -- and researchers like [Smart Choices board president] Dr....

A company owned by the founders of Skype has filed a copyright infringement suit against the Internet phone service and parent eBay -- an action that could crimp eBay's plans to sell Skype for about $2 billion to a group of private investors. Poundland CEO Extolls the Virtue of Value
Poundland, the single-price mixed merchandise retailer has stepped up its Christmas preparations by announcing an expansion of its Christmas range. I spoke to Poundland CEO Jim McCarthy (left) about what this move says about consumer buying habits into the festive season and the longer-term implications into 2010. BNET: How will Poundland's offer be changed by the expanded lines? Jim McCarthy: We've retained the most popular lines from last Christmas. The most notable new lines are Christmas novelties, such as gift bags. We think the new lines reflect the changes in consumer fashions and focus on bringing additional value to the proposition. We know customers are all seeking value this Christmas. BNET: Do you think the customer demographic for your stores has...
