The Importance of Engagement on the Web

I wrote an article for WebProNews this week about why today's content is still relevant to tomorrow's real-time searches, and why the "shareability" of your content is so important. Essentially, the easier you make it to share your content, the more it will be shared (if it is worth sharing), and just because time passes, that doesn't mean that your content is no longer relevant.

America: Nation of “Slacktivists”

With the click of a mouse, its never been easier to broadcast complaints about customer service on Twitter, protest a politician by joining a Facebook group or support efforts to save the whales by signing an online petition. However, it's worth asking whether these efforts amount to any real action.

Latest Clunkers Program Provides Path to a Greener Fridge, Appliance Sales Boost

Can federal stimulus dollars deliver a one-two punch of ratcheting up energy efficiency in U.S. households and provide an economic shot-in-the-arm to country's appliance industry? It seemed to work for the auto industry. So why not apply the basic concept of cash for clunkers to your old fridge and dishwasher? How to Cope with Customers Who No-Show

Have you ever gone spent a day to visit a customer -- only to be stood up?  It's a common occurrence, but it needn't be a disaster, according to Bruce Seidman, president of the sales training firm  Sandler Systems.  Here are three simple rules to help you avoid the problem, and turn it to your advantage when it crops up. PC Habits Fuel Blu-ray Woes

There's a report from iSuppli noting that a minority of PCs ship with Blu-ray drives. And that may go a long way to explain a Catch 22 that is keeping the newer DVD format from really taking off, even though it beat out the competing HD DVD format to become the high def video storage medium of choice.

Burgerville Tests Listing Calories on Receipts

There's been a lot of talk about listing calories and other nutritional information on restaurant menu boards, but Burgerville is taking the trend a step further. A Portland, Ore. location of the burger chain now includes calorie totals, proteins, fats and carbs right on customer receipts. The totals take into account customers' specific requests, and below the calorie totals, there might be a suggestion for healthier alternatives, such as ordering the same sandwich but without cheese. The chain is in the early stages of testing this program, which began in June. Burgerville has not yet decided whether to implement the system in all of its 39 locations. More and more cities, counties and states are implementing menu labeling laws requiring...
