U.S. Investors Still Pumping Big Bucks Into Cayman Islands
Which countries attract the most U.S investment? First, let’s look at the whole global portfolio. As of last year, U.S. investors held a total of $4.3 trillion in foreign securities, according to a Treasury Department report released today. Of that, $2.7 trillion is in foreign equities, $1.3 trillion in long-term debt securities and $300 billion trillion in short-term debt. In 2007, by comparison, U.S. holdings were $7.2 trillion, with $5.2 trillion held in foreign equities, $1.6 trillion in long-term debt securities and $400 billion in short-term debt.
