Iceland’s President Pushes for EVs…And a 100 Percent Clean Energy Economy

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND—The President of Iceland lives in Bessastadir, a historic, 19th-century residence on a peninsula. From a distance, it resembles the Bush compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, but up close it’s notable for the lack of formality. The trappings of power are anathema in Iceland, where even Bjork can count on eating a quiet dinner in the capital city’s excellent fish restaurants. His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson was a featured speaker at the Driving Sustainability ’09 conference in Reykjavik. “Iceland is a model as well as an inspiration,” he said. “We have shown that it is possible to move from being predominantly dependent on fossil fuel to be one of the leading clean energy countries in the world. Now we’re developing...

Pressure Building On KC-X Award

The recent semi-private World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling in the Airbus subsidiaries matter is now inserting itself into the U.S. Air Force's new tanker contract. As we recently wrote about there are many Boeing supporters willing to use this ruling to support making the new contract sole source. Boeing has announced a new website in support of their proposals based on the Boeing 767 and 777 airliners. The website is called www.UnitedStatesTanker.com and features information about their possible bids for this major contract. In an attempt to get around the issues with the last award where the Air Force chose a larger aircraft Boeing is offering both models of aircraft this time. Many in Congress especially the delegations from Washington...

5 Reasons For and Against Making Your Blog Multi-Author

This is a guest post by Kyle Judkins. If you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guidelines here. I have been blogging for over a year now, and during this time, I came to a point where I wanted to expand my blog. The problem was that I just didn’t have enough time, as I have a full time job as a market researcher outside of my blog. This lack of time led me to the decision to hire writers for my blog. This wasn’t any easy decision, and it raised lots of questions. How would I pay them? Would it just add more work? Am I fit to manage other writers?

Maradona’s Mistake

It was terrific to see Juan Martín del Potro beat Roger Federer in the US Tennis Open and provide some much needed relief to the Argentinean psyche. My wife and I have just spent two weeks in Buenos Aires on holiday and the Argentineans were in a state of despair. Far and away the topic dominating the television was the impending football match against Brazil. The rivalry between these two giants of South American foot ball is perhaps one of the fiercest in the world. After a particularly rough game in 1946, no match was played between the two countries for ten years. The balance of results is roughly equal (24 draws, Brazil 37 wins, Argentina 34 wins) and...

Think ‘Small’ to Get Done Faster

Ever find yourself struggling to complete a task because it seems so daunting? We've all been there. Envisioning all the steps that need to be taken to get to "done" can be overwhelming. But if you reduce the friction that's holding you back, says Leo Babauta on Zen Habits, it's easier to reach completion. What's friction? Things like procrastinating, distractions, meetings, or even being intimidated by a big project. Focus on the friction and eliminate it, and you'll find yourself moving forward. Even better, think small. Start by getting the small things done to build momentum. For example, Barbauta explains how he launched a new minimalism blog (mnmlist.com) in just three days: One day to buy the domain, set up...
