Time Gets Its Electronic Freak On – Considers E-Reader

Things certainly have changed if Time is deciding whether it should be in the consumer electronics business with an e-reader. You'd think that after the brick-wall-smashing disaster known as the AOL acquisition, any executive in that company would have learned the danger of stepping too far outside of your own expertise.

Top 5 Funny Cartoons about Selling

While sales pros sometimes crop up in cartoons, they generally play a bit part.  Here are five short videos -- mostly by amateur studios -- that feature sales pros in a leading role.  Each video is humorous in a different way, so I've included polls so that you can vote on which tickles your funny bone. New Paperless Coupons Upload to Loyalty Cards

I wrote about the e-coupon trend a couple of months ago, but there's a new development I think is pretty clever -- coupons that upload onto customer loyalty cards. This is more convenient than online coupons that need to be downloaded and printed -- and it doesn't require customers to have an iPhone, as other schemes do. It does require some advance planning -- customers have to go online before shopping and choose the coupons they want to use. The coupons they select are loaded onto their loyalty card, and then when they go to the store and purchase these items, the savings are automatically counted when the card is swiped. President Obama's speech on Wednesday night laid down clear battle lines in the healthcare reform debate: drug companies are on Obama's side, health insurers (and Republicans) are on the other. It will be interesting to see who has the more powerful lobbyists, Big Pharma or Big Managed Care.

Finding Your Village of Customers

Godin calls it a tribe. Kevin Kelly calls them your 1000 True Fans. Hugh MacLeod calls it a global microbrand. Everywhere you look, you might notice a new kind of flexible, smart small business. They serve a relatively small number of people. Big businesses drool over their profit margins and adaptability. Their customers are knocked [...]
